Website vs social media
You’ve decided it is time to establish an online presence for your business, so do you go for your own website? A Facebook page? Or an Instagram account?
Creating a social media page for your business is super easy. Sign up, write your first post and… that’s it! Your page is now online for potentially millions of customers to see.
Social networking sites give you an extra reach you don’t get with your website. They can help you promote your business to a massive audience for free and allow you to develop your company image and get creative with your audiences and customers.
But… (you knew there was one coming!) to develop a long term business strategy and loyal customers, you absolutely need your own website, and here’s why…
In addition, a percentage of all fees go to charities and community projects; giving back is something that is super important to me. You can read all about the current charity on the blog.
Social networking sites give you no ownership, and zero control. They can change their policies, lose your data, alienate users through their actions or even go out of business completely, and all of that is completely out of your control.
Plus, not everyone is on social media networking sites, so that’s a lot of potential customers you can’t reach.
And (this is the biggie for me) a social media site URL just doesn’t deliver the same professionalism having your own website URL does. If I see an ad or a post on social media that looks interesting, the first thing I do is check out the company’s website to make sure they’re legit. Would you buy from an online business that only has a social media page and no website of their own??
Your website is the foundation of your company’s online presence and it plays an important part in how your business is perceived. A well-designed website with your own https://www.yourbusiness.com and @yourbusiness.com email address makes you look professional and trustworthy.
